I attended Paul Mitchell The School in Cranston, RI, where I earned my cosmetology license, from 2003-2004. A few years of apprenticeship and gaining experience with clients prepared me for an intensive color certification program facilitated by Goldwell USA. This gave me the confidence to move to Boston, where I entered into another training program at Salon Mario Russo, located on Newbury Street, the epicenter of the Northeast’s salon industry. In addition to weekly classes taught by the inhouse education team, I also attended classes facilitated by leading brands in the industry, such as Oribe, Wella, and Bumble And Bumble. Additionally, I was mentored by Mario Russo himself. These educational experiences, as well as building a clientele, laid the foundation for me to become an independent hairstylist in 2017. In 2020, like the lives of many, the pandemic changed mine and brought me home to Rhode Island where I live with my husband, our two mini poodles and two cats.

Like many, I found myself in a bit of a crossroads initiated by the pandemic. As Providence would have it my search coincided with the opportunity at BC!
I hope the following demonstrates my diverse work history and my passion for this industry.
While a senior Classical High School I attended night classes to accelerate the completion of my cosmetology license. In 1989, I successfully completed and passed the State Board of Cosmetology practical and written exams and started full steam ahead on my journey in this field. Starting as a Hairstylist, my career evolved into management and into a field of travel and stage work. As the only bi-lingual educator in the Tri-state area for Framesi, Inc. I was elected to be one of the 34 Premier Cutting Team Members out of 300 educators from around the nation. My passion has always been immersed in hair color and foiling techniques and that opportunity was everything I could have imagined. The move here has invigorated a long love of what we are able to provide our clients: an opportunity of self-care and self-love. How lucky are we?!
In full transparency I do have a full-time job away from my time at my salon, Studio 124. However, my role there allows for a lot of flexibility for you: Early morning, lunchtime, evening and weekends are when I am most accessible for your availability.

Hello my name is Karen and I am the owner of Karen Chris. Since I was a child I was always artistic and I have been lucky to be able to channel that as both an artist and a stylist.
I have been a stylist for 30+ years starting my education by not only attending hairdressing school but also being personally mentored by the owners of the beauty school with hands on training in their salon.
To further refine my training I spent a year in Germany working for an inter-coiffure salon and a year and Belgravia London where my signature style and artistic methods were formed. This time was spent performing out of house and in-house training, intense education at Goldwell Headquarters, as well as prepping models for universal photo shoots and Catwalk walk show at London Fashion Week. My experience with international clientele, my multinational colleagues, and a highly challenging work environment have earned me the title of “colorist”.
At this point in my career formulation of color is like breathing and I like nothing more than a challenge. Hair is like an art form, sculpting and color combined to produce your final image.
I also love to create art on canvas focusing on animals and the relationships with their people.
